Hi,
is there some information about the NVIDIA Quadro FX 2500M video card support for Windows Vista Beta 2? I installed Windows Vista Beta 2 yesterday and jsut got the basic standard VGA driver installed, which isn't a great thing on a high end notebook.
Dell Precision M90 Duo Core @T2600 2GB RAM 100 GB 7200 HardDisk NVIDIA Quadro FX 2500M
Does Microsoft have any beta WDDM drivers for this video card available for early adopters?
Any hint would be a grear help.
Regards, Andreas

NVIDIA Quadro FX 2500M driver on Vista Beta 2
Get the latest drivers from NVIDIA: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_87.15.html
The driver installation might fail at the first attemp, but it will install just fine on the second one (windows installer sort of runs it in a compatibility mode or something....) "Andy Mauer" wrote:

Sorry, bad info, for some reason the FX 2500 is not included in the supported hardware. I'll post back if I find another option for you.

Hi Cyanna,
there is even a ForceWare Vista Beta 2 update on the nvidia site
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_88.61.html
But the update there doesn't have the NVIDIA Quadro FX 2500M driver either! This is a real bad supporting issues from NVIDIA since I particular bought this new high end machine for the Windows Vista evaluation and solution architecture scenarios. So the Dell Precision M90 has the logo "Windows Vista Capable" but can't run with a resulution higher the 1200 x something on a standard VGA driver even though the pc can do 1900 x 1200 this is great isn't it?
Thanks for you assistance.
Regards, Andreas

Hi Andre,
where do I file such a hardware driver request? Aou know the strange thing though is this machine is labeled with "Windows Vista Capable" logo! Could you give me some idea of how to file this driver request? I called Dell support today and they had no idea what so ever when there would be Vista driver for this card awailable.

Andreas; You should ask both Dell and NVIDIA. I am not sure if there are specific places in either to as for driver support, but this may be a start fro NVIDIA: http://www.nvidia.com/object/support_readme.html?p_sid=ug8Q4u8i&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9MzAmcF9wcm9kcz0wJnBfY2F0cz0wJnBfcHY9JnBfY3Y9JnBfc2VhcmNoX3R5cGU9YW5zd2Vycy5zZWFyY2hfZm5sJnBfcGFnZT0xJnBfc2VhcmNoX3RleHQ9dmlzdGE*&p_srch=1&p_email=&p_sla=

The limitation to 1600x1200 screen resolution in VGA mode is in the specs for the video card. "Vista capable" doesn't mean much, essentially that you will be able to load the OS, period. It is in no way a guarantee that you can have aero and other fancy stuff. Just out of curiosity, how did the machine rate? Any way, I'm not saying that your machine will not be able to run Vista with aero, it's just that this version of the OS is a beta and the manufacturers are not quite ready with drivers for all the different hardware. Look at the situation for all the 64-bit systems. Although Vista is meant to run on a 64 platform, there are even less drivers available for that platform then for the 32-bit. It's just a matter of not enough customers screaming loud enough....yet.

Tips for how to file a problem report
Here are some things to consider when filing a problem report:
Please file your report as soon as possible after you find a problem. The sooner we hear from you, the sooner we can investigate and try to fix the problem.
Please provide a brief, descriptive title. The title is the first thing we see when we get the report, so a succinct, clear title will help us effectively identify and prioritize the problem.
Please provide enough detail in the description for us to understand the problem. The more detail you can provide, the better.
Please provide the steps we can follow to reproduce the problem. Any incorrect or missing steps can prevent us from being able to reproduce and address the problem. If you have any supplemental files, screen shots, etc., that will help us investigate the problem, please attach those to your report. Seeing a picture can sometimes help us identify the problem more quickly. -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

If you don't have the right drivers, how could a rating ever say something meaningful?

Hi Andre,
I posted a driver request to the Vista feedback channel. I contacted NVIDIA and they said that the card is on the Vista supported list but that I had to wait until Dell would ship a driver. Well, I have to do evaluation work and start with a UX prestudy for a new software project that runs on Vista and utilizes the AERO interface. So if I have to wait until Dell ships a driver than I have to wait until end of the year and I can't do this. So there must be a way to get a beta driver from someone or what do you advice? (I can't buy another notebook that's for sure)
